Survey Says Most Americans Agree With Trump Admin’s Immigration Raids

A recent survey indicates that over half of likely U.S. voters approve of immigration enforcement operations carried out since the start of President Donald Trump’s term.

The poll, conducted by Rasmussen Reports from January 26-28 among 1,229 likely voters, found that 57% support efforts to apprehend and deport individuals residing in the country unlawfully. Among those, 38% strongly approve, while 39% disapprove, including 24% who strongly oppose the actions.

The survey also examined public opinion on prosecuting officials in sanctuary cities—jurisdictions that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. According to the results, 48% of voters believe these officials should face prosecution for obstructing enforcement, while 38% disagree, and 14% remain undecided.

Additional insights from the poll include:

86% of those who strongly support the raids also favor prosecuting sanctuary city officials who interfere with federal efforts.
Approval for the raids varies by political affiliation: 81% of Republicans, 36% of Democrats, and 45% of independent voters support them.
Strong opposition to the raids is highest among Democrats (47%), compared to 6% of Republicans and 16% of independents.
On the issue of prosecuting sanctuary city officials, 71% of Republicans, 28% of Democrats, and 46% of independents are in favor. Conversely, 56% of Democrats, 20% of Republicans, and 36% of independents oppose such prosecutions.
Support for the enforcement actions also varied by demographic factors:

62% of men and 52% of women approve of the raids.
More men (53%) than women (44%) support prosecuting officials who refuse to cooperate with federal authorities.
By racial demographics, 58% of white voters, 54% of Black voters, 57% of Hispanic voters, and 50% of other minority groups support the raids. However, Black voters were more likely to oppose federal prosecution of sanctuary city officials.
A significant divide was observed between supporters of President Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Among Trump voters, 87% support the raids, while 70% of Harris voters disapprove.

The topic of immigration enforcement has been a subject of debate, with Trump administration officials defending their approach. In a recent interview, Border Czar Tom Homan addressed concerns about enforcement actions taking place near schools, churches, and hospitals.

Responding to questions about whether such operations would create fear among immigrant parents, Homan stated, “It shouldn’t be a chilling effect unless your child is a terrorist or a public safety threat. If they are, they should be afraid because we’re looking for them.”

When asked specifically about parents who are in the country illegally, he reiterated, “They’re not off the table either. It’s not okay to enter this country illegally—it’s a crime. We’re going to enforce the laws.”

Homan emphasized that national security threats and individuals posing public safety risks would not be given sanctuary, affirming that enforcement efforts would continue wherever necessary.
