Blue State Employee Arrested for Allegedly Changing Voter Registrations to “Democrat”
A Connecticut state employee has been arrested for allegedly altering voter registration cards at a September event. Arlanda Brantley, 57, who works for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, turned herself in to authorities and now faces five counts of primary or enrollment violations.
The investigation began in October after officials received a complaint about fraudulent changes to voter registration forms at a national voting event hosted by the Western Connecticut Mental Health Network. Authorities claim Brantley altered multiple voter registration cards, changing party affiliations from “No” or “Republican” to “Democrat” without consent before submitting them to the Registrar of Voters Office in Torrington.
State leaders have expressed strong reactions to the incident. State Rep. Joe Canino (R) condemned the alleged actions, calling them a betrayal of public trust. “A non-partisan voter registration event has been compromised by illegal actions that could have impacted the integrity of elections in Torrington,” he stated.
Canino further emphasized the need for election security, referencing previous voter fraud cases in Connecticut. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening election laws, including stricter voter ID requirements and increased enforcement of election-related crimes.
The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services responded by placing Brantley on administrative leave. “An employee acted independently and without authorization,” stated Krystin DeLucia, a department spokesperson, emphasizing that election laws must be upheld.
Conservative activist Scott Pressler highlighted concerns about potential political exploitation of vulnerable individuals. He urged voters to stay informed about their registration status and encouraged trustworthy individuals to apply for election-related jobs.
This case has renewed debates over election integrity and reinforced calls for transparency and stricter regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
