New Poll Reveals Adam Schiff’s Chances Of Winning Senate Race
A UC Berkeley poll revealed that 44% of likely California voters favor a candidate advocating stricter immigration laws. However, among Adam Schiff’s supporters, only 21% considered immigration policy a key issue, compared to 84% of Steve Garvey’s backers, who emphasized the importance of tougher immigration rules.
Steve Garvey’s campaign manager, Andy Gharakhani, highlighted Garvey’s momentum in the race, noting Schiff’s lackluster performance despite his long political career. “For Adam Schiff to only be polling at 53% and trailing Garvey in fundraising this past quarter speaks volumes,” Gharakhani told Newsweek. He added, “Schiff has spent tens of millions on advertising and is already well-known to voters, while Californians are approaching Steve Garvey with an open mind.” Garvey, he said, has yet to tap into his campaign funds to fully communicate his vision of “commonsense, compassion, and consensus building.”
Garvey, a former Los Angeles Dodgers star who led the team to a 1981 World Series win, is campaigning to revive the “heartbeat” of California. Reflecting on his background, he said, “My life has always been about team building—whether in sports, business, or public service. It’s about leadership, dedication, and passion.”
Schiff, on the other hand, is facing scrutiny over claims related to his primary residences in Maryland and California. Allegations have surfaced suggesting Schiff took advantage of homeowner tax breaks for over a decade while maintaining two primary residences. Tax records indicate that in 2017, Schiff paid California property taxes using a Maryland address, adding to the controversy.
Garvey, who played 14 years for the Dodgers and five for the Padres, is positioning himself as a fresh alternative, emphasizing unity and practical solutions to California’s challenges.
