Trump Hints At Pardons For J6 Defendants After Biden Pardons Son Hunter

President-elect Donald Trump signaled plans to issue mass pardons for individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. He criticized President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son, Hunter, questioning whether it included those involved in the riot. Trump pointed out that many of these individuals have been imprisoned without trial, which he argued violated their Sixth Amendment rights to a speedy trial.

Trump, who regained the White House last month, announced plans to pardon over 1,500 individuals linked to the January 6 events. This includes both those awaiting trial and those already convicted. He also vowed to restructure the Department of Justice, accusing it of weaponizing the justice system under Democratic control.

Biden’s pardon of Hunter Biden, who faced federal gun and tax charges, sparked criticism from both Republicans and Democrats. Critics, including Republicans like House Oversight Chairman James Comer, accused Biden of shielding his son from accountability. Some Democrats, like Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, also expressed disappointment, arguing that Biden put family ahead of the country by granting the pardon.
