Hegseth Refers To U.S. Military Bases By Previous ‘Non-Woke’ Names
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth referred to two U.S. military bases by their previous names while outlining the administration’s efforts to remove diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs from the Pentagon. Fort Bragg, now Fort Liberty, and Fort Benning, renamed Fort Moore, were originally named after Confederate generals but changed following a 2021 commission’s recommendations. Hegseth reaffirmed a shift away from DEI to focus on military readiness.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump signed executive orders reversing Biden-era climate policies, declaring an “energy emergency” to prioritize domestic fossil fuel production. These orders support critical mineral mining, fast-track energy projects on public lands, and revive offshore drilling. Trump also withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, undoing Biden’s climate initiatives like stricter appliance regulations and halted liquefied natural gas exports.
Analysts suggest Trump is taking a more aggressive approach than in his first term, learning from past political opposition. His swift actions reflect a renewed commitment to bolstering U.S. energy independence and military focus. By rolling back regulations, Trump aims to revitalize domestic energy industries and reinforce national security through a stronger, mission-driven military force.
